Voyage of Belonging: The In-Between Artistry Residency
A Residency Being Built
Voyage of Belonging is a site-based residency at the heart of the In-Between Artistry community. It is an immersive program for artists, facilitators, educators, and cultural workers who have walked through the In-Between Identity Circle and are ready to deepen the practice in unfamiliar cultural environments.
The residency is currently in formation. We are scouting sites, building partnerships, refining the curriculum, and shaping the first cohort with care. This page exists to share the vision openly, gather those whose work and longing align with what we are building, and invite the right people to walk toward this with us.
The Vision
Voyage of Belonging is built on a simple but rare premise: that artistic residencies should not be measured by what is produced inside them, but by who is remembered, witnessed, and transformed within them.
Most residencies are output-oriented. Artists arrive at a beautiful place, work in solitude, and leave with a body of work. Voyage of Belonging is built differently. It is relational, place-rooted, and grounded in the belief that art is a practice of belonging to oneself, to ancestry, to community, and to the land beneath us.
Across in-person immersion, participants will move through the three core movements of the In-Between framework — IN, YUN, and IN-YUN — applied not as concepts but as lived practice in a new cultural environment. Together, we will return to self-story, translate place into intentional creation, and build the kind of relational webs that extend long after the residency ends.
What Participants Will Carry Forward
The residency is being designed as a one to two-week residential immersion, structured around guided practice, community circles, somatic and narrative work, site-specific artistic creation, and collaboration with local artists and cultural stewards. One month after the residency ends, participants will gather virtually for an integration session, a space for reflection, witnessing, and continued connection. The work does not end when participants leave the site. It continues in how they carry what they made back into their lives, their practices, and their communities.
Where This Will Be Held
The first site is currently being shaped in conversation with local artists, cultural stewards, and partners. We are seeking places of cultural and ancestral significance, places where the land itself is part of the curriculum, and where local voices are not visitors to the residency but central to its design.
Who This Is For
Voyage of Belonging is built for graduates of the In-Between Identity Circle, artists, facilitators, educators, and cultural workers who have completed our cohort journey and are ready to take the practice into deeper, embodied terrain.
This is the integrative chapter of a longer journey. It is not an open-application residency, and it is not designed as a first introduction to this work. It is the next room, the one that becomes available after the inner work of the cohorts has prepared the ground.

Where We Are Right Now
Voyage of Belonging is being built openly and intentionally. We are not rushing to launch. We are building the residency the way the residency itself will ask participants to build their work slowly, in relationship, with care for what each step requires.
Currently, we are:
Scouting first-residency sites and building site partnerships. Cultivating relationships with local artists and cultural stewards. Developing the curriculum across the travel arc. Building the foundation and grant relationships that will support scholarship access. Holding space for the first cohort of graduates from the In-Between Identity Circle to move toward this together. The first residency timeline is being shaped.
